JUNK TV

Youth & Community
Film

Since 1998 Junk TV has been working with youth and community groups to make short films and video projects. During this time we have developed a unique approach to working with groups to develop stories, learn key film production skills and to produce high quality films using digital video equipment.

More recently we have extended our operations to include the facilitation of groups to produce film festivals and screening events.

A mid-term evaluation of our youth and community film work shows that in the first six months of 2004 we ran 68 film workshop sessions with 483 people and that our main regions of operation were East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent and London.

'The Cellar Door'

Pupils from Buckingham Community Middle School & Shoreham College in Shoreham, East Sussex, worked for six days to produce a short horror film called, 'The Cellar Door'.

The film, which was funded by First Light, follows the exploits of a group of students who decide to bunk off a maths test in the school cellar.

The film was produced to a very high standard and was very well received at its grand gala premiere on the evening of 17th September.

'Focus E15'

Junk TV formed a new partnership this year with Focus E15 in Stratford East London. A group of five young people spent six days writing a film, learning production skills, acting, filming and editing a new short film.

The film is about a young man who faces a dilemna; he has fallen deeply in love with a new girlfriend but hasn't yet told her that his previous girlfriend is about to have a baby. To make matters worse, when the baby's born she is diagnosed as being HIV positive.

'L'ane et le Sort Jette' / 'The Donkey & The Spell'

Summer 2004 saw the completion of an animation project linking people who have a learning disability from France with others in the UK. The project was undertaken in collaboration with Carousel and incorporated 5 days animating in Dieppe, France and 5 days animating in Brighton UK.

The film will premiere at the OSKA BRIGHT film festival in November.
